Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Nate Jo of Richland to serve a one-year term as the student trustee at Western Washington University effective July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.
Nate Jo, from Richland, Washington attended Hanford High School and will graduate from Western Washington University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics. As a freshman, Nate served on the Associated Students Board of Directors as the Vice President for Business and Operations, improving pay equity for student employees, and helping to restructure the Associated Students. Nate went on to serve as the Associated Students Business Director, creating and chairing the AS Finance Council and working to reduce student fees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nate has also served as the Vice President of Hall Representation in University Residences, on the board of the LGBTQ+ Students of Color Club and is currently a captain of the WWU Swim Team. During the 2021 legislative session, Nate also worked as the Legislative Intern for Speaker Laurie Jinkins in the Washington State House of Representatives. In his free time, Nate enjoys competitive swimming, sailing, playing piano, singing in WWU choirs, and volunteering as a crisis counselor for the Trevor Project. Nate is a recipient of the Greater Seattle Business Association Scholarship, Pride Foundation Scholarship, WWU Emerging Scholars Award, and Dan L. Smith Scholarship among others awards and is also a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honors Society.
