On July 1, 2022, Governor Jay Inslee appointed Keara Ryan, from Snoqualmie, Washington, to Western’s Board of Trustees to fill a one-year term through June 30, 2023.  Ryan attended Mount Si High School and will graduate from Western Washington University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sociology, along with a minor in Holocaust and Genocide Studies. In Fall of 2021, Keara transferred to Western Washington University. Keara worked in the Associated Students Office of Civic Engagement as the Elections Coordinator, increasing voter turnout in student elections by over 50%. Keara has served as Outreach Coordinator for WWU Planned Parenthood Generation Action and has been a contributor to The Back. In her second quarter, Keara planned a period production distribution event where she handed out over 700 Diva Cups to students in order to disrupt the cycle of period poverty on campus with a sustainable period product. For this work, Keara was awarded the Commitment to Justice Award from the Club Hub. She has received multiple awards for her community service, including the Robert F. Lucas Award for Community Service for her work in high school as Lieutenant Governor of Division 28 Pacific Northwest Key Club. Prior to attending Western, Keara served on the Carroll College Associated Student Senate and Judiciary Committee. In her free time, Keara enjoys knitting, fiber arts, reading, and volunteering as event staff with Lydia Place.
